In response to a "explain what you do at work, badly" prompt.

Copying here for people who don't read ckd's Facebook page, where I posted this in a comment:

I write software that takes software that lots of other people wrote and converts it into software that other people can use to take software that they and other other people wrote and convert it into software that they combine with other software to make a software system that does many things including helping people find helpful videos about how the software that converts the software into other software does the converting of software into other software.

Also the software that converts other people's software into other software finds errors in the software and complains at the other people about it, and sometimes someone who is often one of my coworkers makes the software better at finding errors in the other people's software that it was not able to find before, so I write software that finds the other people's software that the software that converts the software to other software complains about, and then I fix he other people's software so that the other people can use the smarter software that converts their software into better other software without being complained at.

And also sometimes I help other people figure out why the software that is supposed to convert their software into other software is complaining at them rather than converting their software into other software, and what is wrong in their software or in the software that converts their software into other software.

I'd be amused to read other people's answers, either in comment here or in your own post.
