It's been 85 degrees (F, not C, thankfully!) indoors in the shade here, which to my San-Francisco-Bay-acclimated system, feels quite unpleasantly hot. Luckily, there are things one can do to combat this:
Basic Frozen-Fruit Smoothie:
  • Fill a large glass with frozen fruit of some sort
  • Fill the interstices between the frozen fruit in the glass with milk
  • Dump the lot into the blender and puree until no longer chunky
Today's version of this was 2/3rds of a glass of mango, and the rest blueberry; it turned out quite deliciously well. My more usual versions involve just berries (since those are what's common in the store), but I think I'll have to try the mango more often; it makes a nice sort of base to offset the berries.

Ice cream also works well in place of or in addition to milk, especially if you are starting with fresh fruit and could therefore use an extra shot of frozen-ness.

I really ought to start measuring by putting things in the glass I intend to drink from rather than dumping everything straight into the blender; I always wind up with just a bit too much that way.

Orange juice (or other juices) also work well in place of the milk if you feel like something less creamy. Adding a bit of silken tofu (just a bit) can add that little bit of protein if you want to make it a breakfast drink.

Oh, and I *love* these with mango. I keep seeing the big bag of frozen mango in the grocery store and never pick it up. I really should one of these days. :)

*takes note*

(There are really only so many people who would use the word "interstices" in a recipe for a smoothie, and they're all engineers.)
