How compatible with me are YOU?

Ok, that's some seriously complicated HTML table code in there.... But they do get bonus points for the lack of pictures.

On the other hand, what they do not get bonus points for is potentially infringing the copyright of everyone who's signed up for them, and using said copyrighted material for what amounts to advertising purposes. See, if someone else looks for matches and gets you, they can put you on their "Hot List", at which point they can ask to read your livejournal. LJMatch will then download your recent public posts, strip the identifying information out of them (thus, IMHO, eliminating any claim they might have to merely acting as a proxy), and display them on a LJMatch-branded page for this person to read -- with, of course, the implicit enticement for the reader to spend money to figure out who you are. And, no, this republishing isn't mentioned in their Terms of Service, either, as far as I could tell.

Well, since I guess that's their raison d'etre, and if they're only taking people's journal after the people have signed up, they could claim that they were implicitly granted permission to do this. But yeah, it seems risky, when they could just be upfront about this.

As troubling is that there's no privacy policy mentioned :-(

They could claim that, I suppose, but when I emailed them about it, they made the much more appealing claim of, "Oh, bleep, you're right, and we completely didn't even think about that. We'll amend the terms of service to include that asap, and put in an opt-out button for it as well." (Although they haven't done either of these yet.)

They do have a privacy policy; it (along with the ToS) is linked from an easily-overlooked thing at the bottom of the FAQ: "We absolutely will not sell or give away any personal information you enter on this website to any third-party entities without your permission."
