And this is, indeed, where I go to school; the pictures were all taken on my walk out to the car as I was coming home tonight.

(Incidentally, you probably caught the first version of the top picture while I had it up for 30 seconds or so -- the first time I resized it down to a postable size, the stars went all dim, and so I fixed that and reposted it.)

I was quite pleased with how well it turned out; I hadn't particularly been expecting it to work.

Lucky duck! I was in CA exactly once, a year ago-- at Stanford, to present a paper. I adored it. (I would miss actual weather, don't get me wrong, but I could spend a few weeks in spring there, no problem.) What I wouldn't give for a) cheap flights and b) someone who could take care of the dogs...

We got a credit card with frequent flier miles per dollar and use it for the groceries.

It actually took surprisingly little enhancing, really; for reference, here's the constellation as it was straight out of the camera, with no enhancements or gamma-correction or anything. (I did move the bit of tree in closer so that it would be in the picture for comparison.)

This was a 15-second exposure at F2.9 -- and, yes, the ability to manually set those was one of the reasons I picked this camera -- with the camera's ISA-equivalent set (I think) at 200, for what that's worth.

You know what I really like about these pictures? At four in the morning I'm so suggestible that when I look at them, I can almost actually feel a cool, moist breeze, and smell green growing things in the night...

Ah, college Gothic architecture. The second picture is instant nostalgia--not for Stanford, where I've never been, but for Yale. I think I'm overlaying a bit of one of the residential colleges, but it's more the general style than "oh, that's Berkeley North Court" (but now I'm visualizing a specific bulletin board, for Ghu's sake!).
