Lucky duck! I was in CA exactly once, a year ago-- at Stanford, to present a paper. I adored it. (I would miss actual weather, don't get me wrong, but I could spend a few weeks in spring there, no problem.) What I wouldn't give for a) cheap flights and b) someone who could take care of the dogs...

We got a credit card with frequent flier miles per dollar and use it for the groceries.

Slow and steady wins a free trip to California. *sigh*

They really need to get a move on and invent transporters...

I have maintained for a long time that weather is overrated.

Well, some people don't mind its absence, but I would. Hot cocoa and marshmallows just don't taste as good when it's 75 and sunny outside...

Goddammit, Northern California *has* weather. It also has seasons. They're just not the weather and seasons most people are used to. But they're still weather and seasons!

Rant over now.

My brain identified the constellation in the first picture as 'Orion' and 'Asar' simultaneously. Internal voices in chorus.

Quite disconcerting, that.

I don't actually know what they called it; I do know that it's associated with Osiris/Asar/Wesir. :}

You know what I really like about these pictures? At four in the morning I'm so suggestible that when I look at them, I can almost actually feel a cool, moist breeze, and smell green growing things in the night...

I think I liked the "Tower on Fire" version of that one better.

::sigh:: I so miss the way the Bay Area looks. The color of the vegetation, the color and style of the buildings. I have been in Maryland since 1985 and everything still looks Not Right.

Ah, college Gothic architecture. The second picture is instant nostalgia--not for Stanford, where I've never been, but for Yale. I think I'm overlaying a bit of one of the residential colleges, but it's more the general style than "oh, that's Berkeley North Court" (but now I'm visualizing a specific bulletin board, for Ghu's sake!).

This is why I need a new camera.

And also why I miss working on campus.

And also, Orion is my favoritist constellation ever.

Are very nice, these.

Those are so beautiful. I think my favourite is the tree you added in a comment, though.

I really ought to go to Stanford & walk around more; it's so gorgeous.
