WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will set aside any discussion of Iraq and highlight America's "moral calling," when he addresses the nation on Wednesday night, the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, a White House spokesman said.

Thanks be for small favors. At the very least, he shall not use it as a bully pulpit to declare war on them, then.

Later in the article:
Bush, in excerpts of a CBS television interview released on Monday, recalled as among his most painful memories of the past year the "blood lust" of families of victims of the World Trade Center attacks.

"There was a lot of blood lust," Bush said of his meeting with victims' families shortly after the attacks. "People were, you know, pointing their big old hands at me saying, 'Don't you ever forget this, Mr. President. Don't let us down."'

This, too, is encouraging. We do have a president who sees that that reaction can be taken too far.

I don't quite know what to make of Bush's insistence on attacking Iraq. I keep hoping it is a diversion tactic of some sort to draw attention away from our real target. But, I rather think not.

There are times when one must do what one feels right in spite of critisism from others. I believe that holds true for countries and governments as well as people and corporations.

But geez, when basically everyone else you respect or ask for advice stands up and publically says 'no, that is not a good idea, we cannot support you in this'. .. Isn't it time to think it through again?

I see the Bush administration like a bunch of five or six year olds who have come up with a wacky plan that they brag to their aunts, and cousins about. When their told no, this isn't a good idea and given lists of reasons they react with "I can do anything I want! You're not my mommy!"

*sigh*
