I just found out today, when I turned my laptop on, that Microsoft's "Windows Update" updates for Windows 2000 do not include a fix to make it compatible with the new version of Daylight Saving Time. (And, yes, apparently "Saving" is the correct name and "Savings" incorrect. I didn't know that before.) Apparently since it's not a security issue, they feel no need to actually do anything much about it.
There are, however, solutions -- and solutions for Windows 98, even! I just wrote a post about them in my other journal, so rather than duplicating all that here, I'll just post a link to it.

...and download TZEDIT.EXE to the desktop of your win2k machine. Launch it and select EDIT for your timezone, set the correct info (second sunday in march, first sunday in november), close it. Then right-click the clock on the taskbar and select "Adjust Date/Time". Select a timezone other than your own and click apply. Then select your own timezone again and apply. All fixed, no mucking with the registry (-:
