There are several, actually, but the one I know best is Madeline L'Engle's "A Wrinkle In Time."

Bulwer-Lytton's Paul Clifford was probably what you're searching for, but Spider Robinson's Time Pressure was a better read. ;)

Snoopy's magnum opus is undoubtedly the pinnacle of books starting with that line. (Although doesn't Zelazny's _A Night in Lonesome October_ use it, also?)
